DILI, 23 June 2025 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste ranks 44th globally among 163 nations, with a score of 1,758 in the Global Peace Index 2025, according to a new report from GPI.
Timor-Leste advanced five positions from the previous year, highlighting its growing peace and stability.
The report published by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP) on June 18, 2025 recognized Timor-Leste as a country with a high level of peace.
Published by the Sydney-based Institute for Economics & Peace, the index assesses 163 countries and territories, covering 99.7% of the world’s population.
The Global Peace Index assesses nations across three core pillars: societal safety and security, the extent of internal and external conflicts, and levels of militarization. Despite a sixth consecutive year of declining global peace, Timor-Leste has solidified its status as one of the most peaceful countries in the Asia-Pacific, ranking 10th among 19 nations in the region.
Timor-Leste’s rise in the rankings is largely driven by its consistently low levels of conflict and strong performance in societal safety and security indicators.
The Government of Timor-Leste welcomes this positive progress as a testament to the country’s continued dedication to national stability, the consolidation of democratic institutions, and long-term investment in sustainable development.
