DILI, 26 June 2025 (TATOLI) – The Presidency of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and the IX Constitutional Government hosted a workshop to present the comprehensive evaluation report on the Timor-Leste Tourism Promotion Program 2024, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to sustainable tourism development through evidence-based planning and inclusive governance.

The workshop held at China Hall, Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace, brought together senior government officials, tourism stakeholders, and international partners to review key achievements, assess economic impacts, and chart the strategic direction for Timor-Leste’s tourism sector.

The Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism and Environment, Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, delivered the opening keynote address on Tourism Promotion in Timor-Leste and officially inaugurated the workshop. In his remarks, Vice Prime Minister Lay emphasized the government’s dedication to positioning tourism as a cornerstone of sustainable economic development.

The Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Rural Development, Mariano Assanami Sabino, serving as Chair of the PPTTL 2024 Committee, expressed gratitude for the program’s successful implementation and ceremonially received the PPTTL 2024 Evaluation Report, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s tourism development journey.

The Tony Blair Institute presented a detailed overview of the evaluation report, highlighting operational successes, identifying implementation challenges, and providing strategic recommendations for future tourism initiatives. The presentation underscored the program’s measurable economic impacts and outlined pathways for enhanced sector growth.

The workshop featured a dynamic open discussion session where stakeholders engaged in meaningful dialogue about key findings and explored opportunities for expanded collaboration. This inclusive approach demonstrated the government’s commitment to transparent governance and community engagement in tourism development.

The event exemplified the successful partnership between the Presidency of the Republic and the IX Constitutional Government under the leadership of President and Nobel Peace Laureate, Jose Ramos-Horta. This institutional synergy has proven instrumental in driving meaningful progress in Timor-Leste’s tourism sector through coordinated policy implementation and stakeholder engagement.

In his closing remarks, Vice Prime Minister Kalbuadi Lay reaffirmed Timor-Leste’s dedication to advancing tourism as a pillar of sustainable development, emphasizing the government’s commitment to building upon the lessons learned from PPTTL 2024 to enhance future tourism promotion strategies.

The workshop concluded with technical recommendations from the Tony Blair Institute, summarizing key action points that will guide the implementation of strategic tourism initiatives moving forward.
