DILI, 20 July 2025 (TATOLI) – Angola’s national football team earned three points after defeating Cabo Verde in the group stage of the CPLP (Community of Portuguese Language Countries) Sports Games, held at Dili Municipal Stadium.
Both teams from the African continent launched the match with back-and-forth attacks, relying heavily on physical play. Players initiated offensive strategies down the flanks and through the canter, but the first half ended in a 0–0 draw.
In the second half, Angola began mounting pressure on Cabo Verde’s defence, leading to the opening goal by player Pedro António (number 15) in the 44th minute.
With Angola in the lead, the match continued with dynamic play from both teams. Cabo Verde pushed forward, but Angola kept momentum and widened the gap with a second goal scored by Manuel Pires (number 11) in the 64th minute.
Although Cabo Verde picked up the rhythm, Angola strengthened its defensive line until the referee blew the final whistle, securing a 2–0 win and three points from their second match in the CPLP football competition.
With this result, Angola now leads the group standings with three points, followed by Portugal with three points, while Timor-Leste and Cabo Verde each remain scoreless.
