DILI, 25 July 2025 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, joined the Thai community residing in Timor-Leste to mark the 73rd birthday of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn, taking the opportunity to praise the deep and enduring bonds of friendship between Timor-Leste and Thailand.
The ceremony, held at the Presidential Palace, featured a special initiative promoted by the Royal Thai Embassy, which distributed nutritious food to Timorese children. The action was organized in collaboration with the Women’s Empowerment Unit of the Presidency of the Republic.
The President considered the gesture an emblematic example of the “humanity and fraternity” that marks the long-standing relationship between the two countries.
In his speech, the Head of State extended warm greetings and expressed deep respect to His Majesty the King and the Thai Royal Family. Recalling the historical ties between the two peoples, the President underlined Thailand’s steadfast support for Timor-Leste, especially during the critical period of 1999.
He also highlighted the significant presence of Thai troops in the United Nations peacekeeping forces, as well as the role of Thai generals who left a positive mark on Timor-Leste’s journey towards independence.
Ramos-Horta also praised Thailand’s unique history as one of the few Asian nations that was never colonized, attributing this achievement to the wisdom and leadership of its monarchs.
Concluding his remarks, the President expressed sincere wishes for a long life, health, and prosperity for His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn, reaffirming the strong bonds of friendship and mutual respect that unite Timor-Leste and Thailand.
