DILI, 28 July 2025 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste has called on Thailand and Cambodia to end all fighting, avoid more violence, and work towards a peaceful solution to ensure peace and stability in the region.

The Government made the call during an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers held in Dili today.

Dili calls for both countries to take real steps to avoid more loss of life, damage to property, and the displacement of civilians.

The Government expressed full support for a peaceful solution through ASEAN.

Dili also expressed its support for initiatives to use peaceful dispute resolution mechanisms available within ASEAN, recalling in this context the role of the ASEAN Chairmanship between 2008 and 2011, third-party mediation or recourse to competent international bodies, in accordance with international law.

The Council of Ministers conveyed Timor-Leste’s full readiness to work with all ASEAN Member States and international partners in promoting a peaceful, lasting and mutually acceptable solution that safeguards the legitimate interests of both parties, but effectively and definitively promotes peace and the protection of the people.

Dili stressed the need to protect the rights of both nations and ensure peace and safety for the people affected.
