TL–Australia Economic and Business Conference to Boost Trade, Investment, and Private Sector Growth

DILI, 6 August 2025 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste and Australia are finalising preparations for the Conference 2025 (TLAUCON2025), which will take place from 7 to 8 August at the Dili Convention Centre.

The event is co-hosted by Timor-Leste’s Vice-Prime Minister and the Australian Government, and aims to boost private sector growth and strengthen bilateral trade and investment.

Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão and Anne Aly MP, Anne Aly MP, Australia’s Minister for International Development, Minister for Small Business, and Minister for Multicultural Affairs, will deliver keynote speeches at the opening ceremony. Their presence shows the strong commitment of Timor-Leste and Australia to support private sector-led development and expand the growing economic ties between the two countries.

The full agenda, now released on https://www.tlaucon2025.com identifies the keynote addresses, thematic sessions, and panel discussions.

TLAUCON2025 will feature across four key sectors: tourism, agriculture, manufacturing and processing, and minerals and resources. The conference will also feature a special discussion on Timor-Leste’s ASEAN accession and its implications for trade and investment in Timor-Leste and the region.

One of the key highlights of TLAUCON2025 will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Western Australia’s East Kimberley Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Timor-Leste Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This MoU will formalise a cooperative relationship between the two business chambers, recognising their shared role in advancing private sector development and commitment to promoting economic growth and commercial partnerships.

TLAUCON2025 will include a Trade Fair showcasing more than 50 businesses from Timor-Leste and Australia, representing a range of industries. The Trade Fair will serve as a platform to promote innovative local products and services and attract investment.

Businesses and delegates attending the conference have also been given access to a dedicated B2B Matching website, allowing them to connect with other participants, explore profiles, and arrange meetings in advance of the event. This initiative will support targeted networking and partnership development.

TLAUCON2025 will also include bespoke networking side events hostedby the Timor-Leste Australia Business Council, and sponsored by TradeInvest Timor-Leste, Austrade and the Australian Embassy, and site visits for delegates to explore projects across tourism, agriculture, and manufacturing.

Vice Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, H.E. Mr. Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, says Timor-Leste is honoured to host TLAUCON2025 for the second year in a row.

“We hope this event will serve as a catalyst for strengthening trade and investment ties, fostering deeper economic collaboration between our two nations,” he said.

The Australian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, H.E. Ms Caitlin Wilson says TLAUCON is a great opportunity to explore growing trade and investment opportunities between Australia and Timor-Leste.

“Australia is honoured to support discussions that contribute to Timor-Leste’s economic growth while delivering mutual benefits for both nations,” she said.

With more than 400 participants expected, TLAUCON2025 promises to deliver two dynamic days of dialogue, partnership building, and practical business outcomes.
