DILI, 18 September 2025 (TATOLI) – The labor mobility partnership between Australia and Timor-Leste has reached a significant milestone, with 20,000 young Timorese now working in Australia.

This achievement was celebrated in Timor-Leste, highlighting the program’s success in creating life-changing opportunities for workers and their families.

“This achievement reflects the strength of our friendship and shared commitment to creating life-changing opportunities for Timorese workers, their families, and communities,” the Australian Embassy said in a statement.

The celebration was attended by Mr. Edward Wilkinson, Chargé d’Affaires of the Australian Embassy in Timor-Leste, and Rogério de Araújo Mendonça, the Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment. The event also included Timorese workers and their families, acknowledging the program’s profound impact.

Wilkinson said that through the PALM scheme, workers have the opportunity to gain valuable skills, earn an income, and contribute to Timor-Leste’s development.

“We’re also grateful for their valuable contribution to Australia by addressing workplace shortages in rural and regional towns while also enriching the culture of local communities,” he said.
