DILI, 04 September 2025 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos-Horta, expressed his support today for a new national economic initiative by becoming the first client of the newly established Banco Do Nosso Futuro (BNF or Bank of Our Future.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the headquarters of the National Liberation Combatants Council (CCLN) in Comoro, marking the launch of a financial institution founded and owned by the veterans of the independence struggle.
The Head of State’s symbolic gesture of opening the first account demonstrated confidence in BNF’s potential to contribute to the prosperity of Timor-Leste.
The bank’s launch represents a historic milestone for the former combatants, marking their transition from protagonists of national liberation to active agents in the country’s economic construction. The Banco do Nosso Futuro stands out as the first private bank with exclusively Timorese capital and not state-owned, reflecting a milestone of economic maturity and the transformation of the veterans’ resources into a solid financial institution with a vision for the future.
Although created to meet the needs of veterans and their families, the bank has an inclusive mission, open to all citizens. President Ramos-Horta’s support underscores the institution’s importance as an instrument for financial inclusion, with the capacity to provide accessible services throughout the national territory.
More than a financial entity, the Banco do Nosso Futuro is considered a legacy of the liberation struggle, designed to empower the population and drive the economic development of future generations.
