DILI, 20 October 2025 (TATOLI) – Instituto Nacional de Estatística de Timor-Leste (INE-TL) celebrated World Statistics Day on Monday, emphasizing the importance of quality data for sustainable development.
The event, held at the Ministry of Finance auditorium in Dili under the theme “Quality Statistics and Data for All,” brought together government officials, academics and students.
INE-TL’s President Elias Ferreira said quality statistics are essential to guide policy and development.
He added that the results of the 2022 Timor-Leste Population and Housing Census will soon be available down to suco level to help communities better understand their realities.
Finance Minister Santina Cardoso said reliable data are the foundation of sound public policy.
She praised INE-TL for its professionalism and commitment to aligning national statistics with global standards.
In a message marking the day, António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, called for stronger investment in timely, accurate and independent data to address global challenges such as climate change and inequality.
