President Ramos-Horta meets Indonesian Ambassador to discuss ASEAN cooperation

DILI, 19 december 2025 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos-Horta, received a courtesy call today at the Presidential Residence in Metiaut from Mohammad Iskandarsyah Derry Aman, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to ASEAN.

Marking his first visit to Dili to meet the Head of State, Ambassador Derry Aman expressed his profound honor and his desire to benefit from President Ramos-Horta’s extensive diplomatic experience.

The meeting provided a privileged platform for the Ambassador to hear the President’s views, with the aim of absorbing guidance that could strengthen the already solid bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Timor-Leste.

The discussion placed strong emphasis on regional integration. Ambassador Aman highlighted the immense value of President Ramos-Horta’s advice regarding Timor-Leste’s engagement with ASEAN.

As Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to the bloc, he stressed the importance of the President’s strategic guidance in enhancing collaboration between the two nations within ASEAN.

Both leaders underscored the need to ensure that this cooperation delivers tangible benefits not only to Indonesia and Timor-Leste but also to the wider ASEAN community.

Ambassador Aman said the meeting produced significant outcomes for reinforcing ties between the two countries and their respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

He added that the visit reaffirmed the shared commitment to intensifying the Indonesia–Timor-Leste partnership, ensuring ongoing collaboration to navigate regional challenges and maximize opportunities for mutual development in Southeast Asia.
