Japanese ambassador Kimura Tetsuya concludes three-year mission in Timor-Leste

DILI, 05 january 2025 (TATOLI) – Japanese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Tetsuya Kimura, expressed his gratitude to the government and people of Timor-Leste for three years of friendship and cooperation.

In a statement, Kimura said he was honored to serve as Japan’s ambassador and appreciated the chance to visit all municipalities during his time in Timor-Leste.

The outgoing ambassador said that he would always cherish the kindness and spirit of the people of Timor-Leste.

He emphasized that Japan will continue to support Timor-Leste in the future, particularly in strengthening bilateral relations and development cooperation across various sectors.

Kimura started his role as Japan’s ambassador on December 5, 2022, after presenting his credentials to President José Ramos-Horta at the Presidential Palace in Dili. He officially ended his term on January 2, 2026.

Before coming to Timor-Leste, Kimura worked as Japan’s Ambassador for Economic, Social, and Management Affairs at the country’s Permanent Mission to the UN.

Kimura was born on April 10, 1962. He graduated with a law degree from the University of Tokyo in 1986 and earned a master’s degree in philosophy from Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, Germany, in 1989.
