DILI, 21 January 2026 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste, through the Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, approved the draft resolution proposal from the National Parliament for the ratification of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Governments of Australia and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste on Technical Cooperation for Development.

“This Memorandum of Understanding establishes a framework for technical cooperation between the two governments, providing a general structure for the implementation of development projects aligned with Timor-Leste’s national priorities. The agreement serves as the foundation for concrete technical assistance initiatives in areas identified as priorities by the Timorese Government, where Australia has relevant expertise. It contributes to strengthening institutional capacity, developing human resources, and promoting self-sufficiency and the sustainability of national development,” the statement noted.

The MoU also outlines the principles and mechanisms of cooperation, including technical missions, scholarships and training programs, the secondment of specialists, the provision of equipment, and the implementation of joint projects. It further establishes procedures for coordination, monitoring, and administrative facilitation, ensuring the effective and structured execution of technical cooperation for development between Timor-Leste and Australia.
