President Ramos-Horta to attend Zayed Award for Human Fraternity 2026 in Abu Dhabi

DILI, 02 february 2026 (TATOLI) — President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate José Ramos-Horta will undertake a private and working visit to the United Arab Emirates from 3 to 5 february to attend the 2026 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity ceremony and forum in Abu Dhabi.

The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity is an annual international award honoring individuals and entities who work selflessly to bridge divides and foster meaningful human connection, often at great personal sacrifice.

President Ramos-Horta, a preeminent global advocate for human fraternity and a former member of the award’s judging committee, has been invited to addresd the Human Fraternity Majlis on february 3.

In the opening session titled “Humanitarian Response in Action: Leading with Courage, Compassion & Integrity,” at the Zayed National Museum. The Majlis convenes distinguished leaders and experts to discuss global challenges and pathways to peace.

On february 3, the President will engage with future diplomats as a guest speaker at the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA), and meet with Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, to discuss development partnerships.

On february 4, President Ramos-Horta will have a Courtesy Call to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.

Ramos-Horta will then attend the 2026 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity Ceremony at the Founders Memorial—the historic site where the Document on Human Fraternity was signed in 2019.

Timor-Leste made history in 2022 as the first nation to formally adopt this Document into its national values.

The 2026 Zayed Award honorees are the historic peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Afghan girls’ education advocate, Zarqa Yaftali.

Concluding his visit on february 5, President Ramos-Horta will participate in the World Governments Summit in Dubai, joining a plenary session on shaping future governance.

Ramos-Horta said: “This visit is a profound testament to our shared universal yearning for peace and mutual respect. Timor-Leste’s pioneering adoption of the Document on Human Fraternity declared our national character. Engaging in this global dialogue reinforces our duty to champion compassion and dialogue as the foundational pillars for a more just and peaceful world.”

This high-level engagement underscores Timor-Leste’s active role in global humanitarian discourse and its commitment to promoting international peace, solidarity, and mutual understanding, while strengthening bilateral relations with the United Arab Emirates.
