DILI, 04 february 2026 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste has approved a donation of US$5 million to the Portuguese Republic following the passage of Tropical Storm Kristin through Portuguese territory, which left a trail of destruction across several regions of the country, mainly in the central area.
According to the Government, extreme weather events have caused fatalities, displacement, extensive damage to homes, public infrastructure, and community facilities, as well as disruptions to energy supplies, transport, and other essential services.
The financial contribution is aimed at helping Portugal address the immediate aftermath of the disaster.
The Government said this financial support is intended to support immediate response, recovery, and reconstruction efforts in the most affected areas.
Tropical Storm Kristin brought severe weather conditions that significantly affected communities, particularly in central Portugal, prompting emergency response measures and recovery operations.
The donation reflects Timor-Leste’s solidarity with Portugal, a long-standing partner, at a time when communities are working to rebuild and restore essential services.
