DILI, 24 february 2026 (TATOLI) – The Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares (HNGV) recorded four dengue-related deaths in the third week of february, bringing the total number of fatalities to 14 since the start of the year.
According to HNGV Director of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Support Services, Vidal Lopes, a total of 824 dengue cases have been reported nationwide in 2026. Of these cases, 54 patients are currently receiving treatment at HNGV, while 56 are being treated at the Tasi Tolu quarantine centre.
“Most cases were reported in Dili, Ermera and Liquiçá. Unfortunately, some patients could not be saved due to the severity of their condition on arrival at the health facility,” he said.
Lopes stressed that the deaths were not caused by a lack of specific medicines but rather by delays in seeking medical care.
“Dengue treatment is supportive, focusing on fluid management, fever control and the prevention of complications. Where comorbidities exist, specific treatment may be required. In indicated cases, platelet or plasma transfusion may also be necessary,” he added.
