DILI, 27 February 2026 (TATOLI) – The Vice Minister of Commerce and Industry, Augusto Júnior Trindade, designated as the SEOM (Senior Economic Officials Meeting) Leader of Timor-Leste, participated, together with the delegation, in ASEAN Roundtable on “ASEAN Economic Security: Context, Considerations, and Challenges.”
The roundtable discussion was held in Iloilo, the Philippines, bringing together high-ranking economic officials from ASEAN Member States.
During the meeting, representatives of ASEAN Member States and speakers from different institutions presented their perspectives and plans to strengthen the economic security of the region in the future.
The discussions covered rules, regulations, and economic policies related to trade, services, and investment.
As a member of ASEAN and the WTO, Timor-Leste reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional integration and the multilateral trading system, which are crucial for ASEAN’s economic security.
At the meeting, Vice Minister Trindade emphasized that discussions on economic security are timely, as the global economy is experiencing profound shifts and challenges.
The High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Economic Integration (HLTF-EI) is responsible for providing strategic guidance on advancing ASEAN’s economic integration agenda, strengthening existing frameworks, and addressing emerging challenges.
The meeting also reviewed ASEAN’s economic engagements with external partners, including China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, as the organization sought to strengthen relations beyond its member states.
