DILI, 04 March 2026 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s National Parliament on monday approved President José Ramos-Horta’s state visit to Portugal to attend the inauguration of President-elect António José Seguro, scheduled for 9 March 2026.
The swearing-in ceremony is set to take place at 10:00 a.m. local time at the Portuguese Parliament.
Seguro secured the presidency in the second round of elections, winning 66.84 percent of the vote against André Ventura, leader of the Chega party.
In line with Portugal’s constitutional procedures, the President of the Republic is formally sworn in before Parliament. The Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic presides over the inaugural session, during which the President-elect delivers a declaration of commitment, takes the oath of office, and presents an inaugural address.
