DILI, 12 March 2026 (TATOLI) – On the margins of the XIII Global Baku Forum, President of the Republic, Jose Ramos-Horta held a high-level bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov.

The strategic encounter provided a valuable platform for the two leaders to exchange perspectives on the current international and regional landscape, including the ongoing peace process in the South Caucasus and pressing global security and stability challenges.

During the meeting, President Ramos-Horta and Prime Minister Asadov explored concrete avenues to significantly strengthen bilateral relations between Timor-Leste and Azerbaijan.

Their discussions focused on expanding cooperation across diplomatic, economic, and educational sectors. Key initiatives addressed included exploring mutual investment opportunities, establishing academic scholarship programs, and fostering closer institutional partnerships—particularly in diplomatic training—to support Timor-Leste’s ongoing development and regional integration priorities.

Beyond bilateral interests, the two leaders emphasized the vital importance of continued coordination within multilateral frameworks, notably the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement.

By actively collaborating across these international platforms, both nations reaffirmed their strong mutual interest in cultivating a closer, mutually beneficial relationship that advances shared goals of diplomacy, development, and global cooperation.
