DILI, 13 March 2026 (TATOLI) – Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste met with newly designated ambassadors from Papua New Guinea, Kenya and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta as part of preparations for the formal presentation of their credentials in Timor-Leste.
The meeting was chaired by Director-General for Consular and Protocol Affairs Josefina Carla Pompeia Tilman and attended by the National Director of Protocol and Ceremonies Dilson Castro.
During the meeting, the ambassadors submitted copies of their letters of credence to the Directorate-General for Consular and Protocol Affairs, a standard diplomatic procedure that takes place before the official presentation of credentials to the President of the Republic.
Tilman said the Foreign Ministry, through its Protocol Division, would coordinate the necessary preparations for the ceremony in which the ambassadors will formally present their credentials to President José Ramos-Horta.
Following protocol procedures, Tilman also briefed the diplomats on the process of presenting their credentials and welcomed them on their appointments as diplomatic representatives to Timor-Leste.
She highlighted the importance of maintaining and strengthening bilateral relations between Timor-Leste and their respective countries.
During the session, Castro provided further guidance on the rules and procedures related to the credential presentation ceremony.
The presentation of letters of credence formally marks the start of an ambassador’s diplomatic mission in the host country and symbolizes the strengthening of bilateral ties.
