Dili, 17 March 2026 (TATOLI) — Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Dili, Bruce Begnell, officially handed over the SeaVision maritime domain awareness platform to Timor-Leste’s National Maritime Authority and Navy during a ceremony at the naval base in Hera.
The platform was received by Navy Component Commander Comodoro Higinio das Neves, who also serves as Director of the National Maritime Authority. The ceremony was witnessed by officials from the Timor-Leste Navy and the National Maritime Authority.
SeaVision, a U.S.-developed maritime monitoring system, enables authorities to track vessels in Timor-Leste’s waters and surrounding areas, providing real-time data to strengthen maritime safety, security, and operational planning.
Speaking at the ceremony, Bruce Begnell said the delivery of the SeaVision platform reflects the strong cooperation between the United States and Timor-Leste in advancing maritime security.
“This platform will help Timor-Leste’s authorities monitor maritime activities in real time and support more informed operational decision-making,” Begnell said.
Comodoro Higinio das Neves welcomed the initiative, noting that the system will significantly strengthen the country’s maritime monitoring capabilities.
“The SeaVision platform will enhance the National Maritime Authority’s ability to monitor maritime activities and strengthen coordination among institutions responsible for protecting our maritime domain,” he said.
The handover underscores the strong partnership between the United States and Timor-Leste and a shared commitment to advancing maritime security, supporting Timor-Leste’s regional engagement and ASEAN integration, and promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific.
