DILI, 30 March 2026 (TATOLI) — Interim Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Jesuína Maria Ferreira Gomes on Monday received a courtesy visit from Senior Human Rights Official Raja Azwa Petra and her delegation to discuss cooperation on human rights initiatives in Timor-Leste.
During the meeting, Petra informed the minister about a proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste on the implementation of a country programme under the mandate of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Dili.
This agreement aims to strengthen the institutional framework for protecting and promoting human rights in the country, aligning national efforts with international standards.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a close working relationship to ensure the successful implementation of the proposed MoU and to continue fostering a culture of human rights and dignity for all citizens.
The discussion also covered the continued presence of an OHCHR country program in Timor-Leste under the mandate of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
