DILI, 08 April 2026 (TATOLI) – The Council of Ministers has approved a draft Government Resolution presented by Minister of State Administration Tomás do Rosário Cabral, outlining the country’s policy on administrative divisions and the formal recognition of villages (sucos) and hamlets (aldeias).

The resolution aims to maintain stability in Timor-Leste’s administrative structure, ensure territorial cohesion, guarantee the continued delivery of public services, and support preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

As part of these measures, the Government has decided not to create new Administrative Posts or officially recognise new villages, citing the potential disruption such changes could cause to election organisation and community management.

The resolution also requires all residents of each hamlet to complete the Family Form, a tool designed to improve the identification and organisation of local communities and to ensure compliance with village chiefs’ guidance.

The resolution reflects the Government’s commitment to administrative stability and effective governance, particularly in the lead-up to national elections.
