DILI, 08 April 2027 (TATOLI) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Washington had secured a two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran just hours before a self-imposed deadline, stepping back from earlier threats of a major attack he had warned could devastate Iran’s entire civilization.
The announcement followed discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, who urged restraint amid rising regional tensions.
“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir… they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran,” Trump said, adding the pause was “subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz.”
“I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks,” Trump said.
Trump described the move as part of a broader effort to de-escalate the situation and advance negotiations toward a longer-term settlement.
“This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE!” he said, adding that the United States had “already met and exceeded all Military objectives” and was “very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East.”
The President said Washington had received a “10 point proposal from Iran” that could serve as the basis for further talks.
“We believe it is a workable basis on which to negotiate,” Trump said. “Almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to… but a two-week period will allow the Agreement to be finalized and consummated.”
Trump added that resolving the dispute would mark significant progress toward regional stability.
“On behalf of the United States of America… it is an Honor to have this Longterm problem close to resolution,” he said.
It was not immediately clear whether Iran had formally accepted the terms of the ceasefire or the conditions regarding the strategic waterway.
