DILI, 19 May 2026 (TATOLI) — The Governor of the Central Bank of Timor-Leste Helder Lopes on Tuesday received a courtesy visit from ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn at the bank’s headquarters in Dili, as Timor-Leste continues preparations for deeper regional integration.
The meeting was also attended by Vice-Governors Rafael Borges and Sara Lobo Brites, along with central bank officials.
The visit took place on the sidelines of the ASEAN Secretary-General’s official trip to Timor-Leste for the 24th anniversary of the country’s Restoration of Independence.
During the meeting, the Secretary-General shared ASEAN’s priorities on ASEAN Community-building and regional integration, including Timor-Leste’s full integration into ASEAN. Discussions also highlighted regional initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation in the areas of economy, investment, trade, and connectivity, which are considered essential for fostering a stronger and more resilient regional community.
As part of his visit, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn was also accompanied by representatives of investors and digital financial companies interested in gaining a better understanding of the Timorese market and exploring potential investment opportunities in the country’s financial industry.
