DILI, 09 June 2026 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste and Myanmar have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining constructive diplomatic dialogue and strengthening bilateral relations during talks between their senior diplomats in Jakarta.
Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Roberto Sarmento de Oliveira Soares, received Myanmar’s Chargé d’Affaires and Head of Mission to Indonesia, Mang Hau Thang, at the Timor-Leste Embassy, where the two officials discussed issues of mutual interest and regional cooperation.
During the meeting, the two officials engaged in a productive exchange on matters of mutual interest. Both parties emphasized the importance of dialogue, respect for sovereignty, and adherence to international law as the essential foundations for enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations.
The diplomats reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting amicable diplomatic relations and underscored their respective roles within the ASEAN regional architecture to safeguard peace and prosperity in Southeast Asia.
Ambassador Roberto Soares expressed his appreciation to the Myanmar Chargé d’Affaires for the visit. He reiterated Timor-Leste’s steadfast commitment to fostering friendly relations, supporting ASEAN principles, upholding democracy, human rigthd, justice and adhering to international law.
The meeting was characterized by a candid and friendly conversation, clarifying complex matters and key issues while paving the way for restored confidence and strengthened bilateral cooperation.
