DILI, 25 June 2026 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste has called for continued dialogue between Argentina and the United Kingdom over the status of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas), urging both sides to pursue a peaceful and mutually acceptable solution under the framework of international law.
The statement was delivered during a meeting of the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24) focused on the Question of the Falkland Islands.
In its statement on the issue of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas), Timor-Leste reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, international law, and the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue and constructive engagement.
Timor-Leste encouraged Argentina and the United Kingdom to continue engaging in good faith toward a peaceful and mutually acceptable solution, while recognizing the interests, well-being, and aspirations of the inhabitants of the Islands.
As a steadfast supporter of multilateralism, Timor-Leste reaffirmed its commitment in promoting dialogue, mutual respect, and international cooperation in addressing complex international issues.
