DÍLI, 21 July 2026 (TATOLI) — Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste Bendito dos Santos Freitas, accompanied by Vice-Minister for ASEAN Affairs Milena Rangel, on Tuesday participated in the Extended Informal Consultation on the Implementation of the Five-Point Consensus.
The consultation provided ASEAN Foreign Ministers with an opportunity to exchange views on the evolving situation in Myanmar and review efforts to advance the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus.
Building on the recent informal consultations held in Bangkok, the discussions focused on humanitarian assistance, reducing hostilities, strengthening ASEAN’s engagement with Myanmar, and exploring practical approaches to assess progress in implementing the Five-Point Consensus.
Ministers also deliberated on proposals concerning a longer-term ASEAN Special Envoy mechanism to ensure greater continuity and effectiveness in ASEAN’s engagement.
Minister Bendito reaffirmed Timor-Leste’s unwavering support for ASEAN’s collective efforts to facilitate a Myanmar-owned and Myanmar-led peaceful resolution to the crisis.
He underscored the importance of dialogue, humanitarian assistance, and the full implementation of the Five-Point Consensus, while emphasizing that ASEAN unity, centrality, and constructive engagement remain essential to promoting lasting peace, stability, and prosperity for the people of Myanmar and the wider region.
