Minister Bendito participates in the Plenary Session of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

DÍLI, 21 July 2026 (TATOLI) — Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste Bendito dos Santos Freitas, accompanied by Vice-Minister for ASEAN Affairs Milena Rangel, today participated in the Plenary Session of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City, Philippines.

The Plenary Session brought together ASEAN Foreign Ministers to deliberate on key priorities for advancing ASEAN Community building, strengthening the implementation of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC), reviewing ASEAN’s external relations and dialogue partnerships, and preparing for the upcoming Post-Ministerial Conferences, the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), the East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, and the 49th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.

Ministers also considered the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Annual Report and deliberated on the adoption of the Joint Communiqué and other key outcome documents.

During the meeting, Minister Bendito reaffirmed Timor-Leste’s steadfast commitment to contributing constructively to ASEAN Community-building efforts and to working closely with fellow ASEAN Member States in strengthening ASEAN unity, centrality, resilience, and regional integration.

He underscored Timor-Leste’s support for the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to promoting peace, stability, sustainable development, and a rules-based regional order through enhanced regional cooperation and dialogue.
