Timor-Leste, Egypt seek stronger cooperation across key sectors

DÍLI, 24 July 2026 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, accompanied by the country’s Permanent Representative to ASEAN, Ambassador Elisa da Silva, met with Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, both parties discussed deepening bilateral cooperation in areas including diplomatic training, education, agriculture, policing, and border management following talks between their foreign ministers on the sidelines of regional meetings in Manila.
The ministers welcomed the long-standing friendship between Timor-Leste and Egypt and explored opportunities to expand collaboration in capacity building, diplomatic training, scholarships, agriculture, policing and border management, as well as the pharmaceutical sector.
Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to expand training and scholarship opportunities for Timorese officials and students, including through Egyptian diplomatic and academic institutions.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to broaden practical cooperation and strengthen bilateral engagement for the mutual benefit of their countries and peoples.
