President Ramos-Horta delivers lecture on peacebuilding at the National University of Vanuatu

DÍLI, 29 July 2026 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Josó Ramos-Horta, visited the National University of Vanuatu (NUV) in Port Vila on Wednesday afternoon as part of his historic State Visit. Upon arrival, the President was warmly welcomed by NUV Vice-Chancellor Jean-Pierre Nirua and Vanuatu’s Minister of Education, Hon. Simil Johnson, before proceeding to the Louis Mapou Auditorium to meet with students, faculty, and academic authorities.

During the event, President Ramos-Horta delivered a compelling public lecture titled “Peace Building and National Reconciliation,” sharing Timor-Leste’s profound journey through self-determination, peace consolidation, and state-building.

Interacting directly with the academic community, he emphasized the critical role of education, youth empowerment, and knowledge as fundamental tools for promoting enduring peace, democracy, and sustainable development.

The university engagement highlighted a shared commitment to strengthening academic cooperation between the two Small Island Developing States. Concluding the inspiring session, President Ramos-Horta received a token of appreciation from the university, joined students and faculty for a commemorative photograph, and participated in a brief tour of the campus.
