Timor-Leste Defense Force joins FELINO 2026 exercise in Brazil
DÍLI, 14 August 2026 (TATOLI) — A delegation from the Timor-Leste Defence Force (F-FDTL), led by Colonel Mário Baptista “Bersama”, is taking part in Exercise FELINO 2026 in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná state, Brazil.
The exercise, running from August 10 to 20, is organised by the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) to strengthen interoperability among the armed forces of its member states through joint training in tactical, operational and strategic capabilities.
According to a statement, the exercise focuses on peace support and humanitarian assistance operations, including responses to natural disasters and other emergencies.
It also aims to demonstrate to the United Nations the capacity of CPLP member states to contribute to peacekeeping and humanitarian operations in different parts of the world.
More than 700 military personnel are taking part in the field activities. Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe and Cape Verde are not participating in this year’s exercise.
The F-FDTL delegation includes Lieutenant-Colonels Jacinto Soares, Gregório Bernardo Correia, Hélio da Costa and Yosep Taek, as well as Navy Captain Nicolau Sousa and Captain José António.
The programme will also include a Distinguished Visitors Day, attended by the chiefs of general staff of the armed forces of CPLP member states. The event will feature an observation session of the exercise’s activities and the closing ceremony of FELINO 2026.
