President Ramos-Horta and Nobel Laureates highlight global biodiversity at Tambling Wildlife Reserve
DÍLI, 28 August 2026 (TATOLI) – Following a major international Science for Development Summit in Dili, the President of the Republic, Jose Ramos-Horta led a delegation of global Nobel Laureates on a special ecological mission in late August 2026.
The trip served as the capstone to the President’s year-long campaign to promote biodiversity and animal welfare, bridging high-level scientific dialogue with hands-on environmental advocacy.
On August 27 and 28, the distinguished group traveled to Indonesia to visit the Tambling Wildlife Nature Conservation (TWNC). They were personally welcomed by TWNC founder Tomy Winata, whose company entirely funds the massive 400,000-hectare sanctuary.
Joined by Indonesian parliamentarians Titiek Soeharto and Julie Laiskodat, the delegation witnessed firsthand the private reserve’s critical work in protecting pristine forests and endangered wildlife, particularly the Sumatran tiger.
During the two-day excursion, the Nobel laureates and the scientist engaged in various community and conservation activities, including distributing school supplies to local students, visiting a big cat rehabilitation center, and releasing pigeons and sea turtles into the wild.
The international visitors praised the ambitious private-sector initiative, celebrating TWNC as a powerful, real-world model of commitment to global environmental preservation.
