Timor-Leste celebrates growing friendship and strategic partnership with UAE

DÍLI, 31 August 2026 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic Jose Ramos-Horta participated in a reception dinner in Dili on Monday evening to celebrate the deepening friendship and bilateral partnership between Timor-Leste and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Welcoming UAE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Noura Al Kaabi, the President praised the UAE’s remarkable economic transformation under the visionary leadership of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reaffirming both nations’ shared values of peace, tolerance, and human dignity.
Highlighting tangible cooperation, President Ramos-Horta expressed profound gratitude to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for supporting key development projects, notably the Female Students Residence Complex currently under construction in Dili to safely house 300 university students.
The President emphasized that this initiative, alongside diplomatic and institutional training opportunities at the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy in Abu Dhabi, reflects a vital investment in Timorese women, education, and national human capital.
The Head of State invited UAE investors and institutions to partner in expanding sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, logistics, healthcare, and tourism, noting that Timor-Leste’s recent embassy opening in the UAE marks a new phase in bilateral ties.
Invoking the principles of the 2019 Document on Human Fraternity signed in Abu Dhabi, President Ramos-Horta urged for peaceful dialogue in regional and global conflicts, while announcing his upcoming official visits to the UAE in November and December to further solidify the two nations’ enduring partnership.
