Timor-Leste expresses solidarity with Nepal following devastating floods and landslides

DÍLI, 31 August 2026 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic and Nobel Peace Laureate, José Ramos-Horta, has expressed deepest condolences to the President, Government, and people of Nepal following the catastrophic landslides and floods that recently have struck various parts of the country.

In an official letter dated 31 August 2026 addressed to Ramchandra Paudel, Right Honourable President of Nepal, President Ramos-Horta expressed profound sadness over the tragic loss of lives, the high number of people reported missing, and the widespread destruction of communities, homes, and critical infrastructure.

“I wish to express my deepest condolences to Your Excellency, the Government and the People of Nepal, in particular to the families of the victims of the devastating landslides and floods that recently struck various parts of the country,” said Ramos-Horta. “We received with profound sadness the news of the loss of lives, the high number of people reported missing, and the serious damage caused to communities, homes, roads and other infrastructure.”

President José Ramos-Horta conveyed his sincere solidarity and compassion to families who had lost loved ones, while expressing his wishes for strength and hope to affected communities and to the teams continuing search, rescue and relief operations.

Timor-Leste expresses its full solidarity with the people of Nepal at this difficult time and hopes that the ongoing emergency and recovery efforts will help save lives, provide assistance to survivors, and rebuild the affected communities.
