Timor-Leste and Sri Lanka Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

DÍLI, 08 September 2026 (TATOLI) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, met with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health and Mass Media, Nalinda Jayatissa, MP, to discuss opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Building on diplomatic relations established in 2002, both sides discussed establishing a bilateral consultation mechanism to promote regular dialogue and advance practical cooperation.

The Ministers identified priority areas for further engagement, including trade and investment, tourism, public health, pharmaceuticals and medical supply chains, healthcare capacity building, manufacturing, garments, and construction.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Timor-Leste–Sri Lanka relations and encouraged technical-level follow-up to translate shared priorities into concrete, mutually beneficial cooperation for both countries and peoples.
