British Ambassador meets with President Ramos-Horta to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation

DÍLI, 29 September 2026 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, received today in an audience at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace the non-resident Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Timor-Leste, Dominic Jermey.
The diplomatic meeting served to discuss the importance of bilateral relations between the two countries and to reaffirm their commitment to working together for development and global security.
During the meeting, the British diplomat—who recalled his first visit to Timor-Leste in the period following the 1999 popular consultation—highlighted the strong human bond uniting both nations.
Dominic Jermey underscored the British Government’s recognition of the contribution made by more than 30,000 Timorese citizens currently living and working in the United Kingdom, enriching British society.
Furthermore, he praised the mutual cooperation between both countries within the framework of the United Nations, aimed at building a safer world.
As part of his official agenda in the country, the Ambassador also briefed the Head of State on his upcoming steps, which include a meeting with the Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão and field visits.
Dominic Jermey will travel to the municipality of Viqueque and other regions to closely follow projects supported by the UK Government, specifically focused on coastal resilience and supporting sustainable development in Timor-Leste.
