President Ramos-Horta receives delegation from the National University of Singapore Society to discuss economic development opportunities

DÍLI, 29 September 2026 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos-Horta, on Tuesday received, at the Presidential Palace Nicolau Lobato, a delegation from the National University of Singapore Society (NUSS), which is in Timor-Leste for a four-day business and economic exploration mission.
The meeting provided an opportunity for an exchange of views on Timor-Leste’s role in the regional and international geopolitical context, as well as on the country’s prospects and opportunities for economic development.
During the meeting, the Head of State shared with the delegation members his life experience and reflections on leadership, highlighting the importance of knowledge, intellectual capacity and a strategic vision in addressing the challenges of national development.
The President of the Republic stressed that the future of Timor-Leste requires strengthened intellectual capacity and a clear strategic vision capable of driving a new stage of the country’s development. In this context, he encouraged representatives of NUSS and Singapore’s business sector to actively contribute to the process of nation-building and development in Timor-Leste.
For its part, Soh Yi Da, the spokesperson for the NUSS delegation stated that the main objective of the visit is to explore the potential of the Timorese market and identify opportunities for investment and business cooperation, particularly in areas that can contribute to national development priorities.
In addition to the meeting with the President of the Republic, the Singaporean delegation’s agenda includes meetings with various ministries, members of the Government and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Timor-Leste.
The visit by the NUSS delegation represents an opportunity to further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Timor-Leste and Singapore, as well as to promote new economic and business partnerships of mutual benefit.
