President Ramos-Horta received by a grand military welcome in Fiji to commence pacific working visit

DÍLI, 05 September 2026 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic José Ramos-Horta, arrived in Fiji today, greeted by a distinguished Military Parade at the airport.

The Head of State was warmly received by Brigadier General Manoa Gadai, Commander of the RFMF Joint Task Force Command based at Blackrock Camp in Nadi, alongside Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, Outgoing High Commissioner to New Zealand, and Jackson Bernard Evans, High Commissioner to PNG.

This arrival marks the official commencement of the President’s working visit to Fiji and Tuvalu, scheduled from October 5 to 7.

The diplomatic mission underscores Timor-Leste’s deepening engagement with Pacific Island nations and its steadfast commitment to regional solidarity, particularly regarding climate resilience and sustainable development.

Following the airport honors, President Ramos-Horta is scheduled to be received with a traditional cultural welcome ceremony before attending a dinner hosted by Fijian Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka.

These engagements will provide a vital opportunity for informal dialogue to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance regional cooperation between Timor-Leste and Fiji.

Championing the cause of vulnerable small island developing states, President Ramos-Horta continues to position Timor-Leste as a bridge of solidarity, amplifying the collective Pacific voice on climate adaptation on the global stage.
