DILI, 16 June 2026 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic, Jose Ramos-Horta, was received on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, for a courtesy meeting at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Putrajaya.
Held in a warm and cordial atmosphere, the meeting reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between the two countries and further strengthened bilateral relations.
The engagement concluded with a luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in honour of the Timorese Head of State as part of his official visit to Malaysia.
During their discussions, the two leaders exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on strengthening cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, and economic development.
The two leaders also highlighted the importance of human capital development through education and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), recognizing it as a key pillar for sustainable growth and long-term national development.
President Ramos-Horta expressed his appreciation for Malaysia’s longstanding support for Timor-Leste and encouraged Malaysian investors to explore the growing opportunities available in the country.
He underscored Timor-Leste’s political stability and favourable investment climate, particularly in strategic sectors such as infrastructure, tourism, and the digital economy.
Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN featured prominently in the discussions. President Ramos-Horta thanked Malaysia for its continued support and reaffirmed that regional integration remains a strategic national priority.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reiterated Malaysia’s view of Timor-Leste as a close partner and an important member of the ASEAN family, while reaffirming Malaysia’s commitment to supporting the country’s accession process.
Both leaders expressed their determination to further deepen bilateral cooperation and partnership for the benefit of the peoples of Timor-Leste and Malaysia, while contributing to the promotion of peace, stability, and shared prosperity across the region.
