KOICA Alumni share experiences relating to the urban planning systems

DILI, 02 October 2020 (TATOLI)– a hundred of Timor-Lorosae Eastern University (Universidade Oriental Timor-Lorosa’e (UNITAL) students have participated in the studied of Urban Planning which has been provided by the Timorese Scholarship Alumni from KOICA.

President of Alumni Association in TL, Gil Boavida said they are willing to share their knowledge with the university students about urban planning system since it is still a complicated process in Timor-Leste.

To experience this urban planning, Mr Boavida recommended that politicians, academics, and civil society give contributions to the government to create plans in the future.

“This is the first time we have had the opportunity to share knowledge about urban planning to these students, to put together the ideas about what planning is in relation to our country especially in Dili,” he told the journalist at UNITAL.

This program is comes from the cooperation and support from KOICA and UNITAL as it aims to create recommendations and ideas that need to be considered for urban planning.

UNITAL Rector, Florindo Pereira, is proud of KOICA’s program and its ability of helping the students to understand urban political planning.

“We are very proud that they come to share their experiences with our students. This is to guide their experiences to set a good plan in the future,” he said.

He has also observed Timor-Leste is yet to have integrated urban planning between the consolidation of clean water, roads, electricity and others.

The Minister of Public Works had introduced this to the council of Ministers, the three-degree law such as the law for territorial legislation, soil classification and urbanization include edification that will distribute to every Ministry in Timor-Leste.
