UNICEF announced 223 GeneXpert test kits to NHL

DILI 6 october 2020 (TATOLI)- Executive Director of National Health Laboratory (NHL), Endang Soares da Silva said NHL has received 223 GeneXPert test kits (2,230 tests) from United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund – UNICEF to support its country covid-19 response.

According to Ms. Silva this equipment is secure in the NHL laboratory and are yet to use since the earlier equipment which NHL received from other partnership are still available and will be distributed to other municipalities.

“These kits come at an opportune time and we will immediately send them to the regional hospitals to strengthen their capacity to test for COVID-19,” Executive Director Endang Soares da Silva said.

She added, the earlier supports NHL had received from other partnership, Menzies, Global Fund, KOICA, WHO and UNPD are reagents which have been distributing to other municipalities, Suai, Oé-Cusse, Bobonaro include Viqueue and will be followed by Baucau and Maubesi.

At the same time the representative of UNICEF to Timor-Leste Valérie Taton said, since onset of COVID-19 pandemic, UNICEF has provided multi-dimensional support for national response also the support for health service for children beyond covid-19.

“We will continue this support till we battle down this pandemic and we will also continue to support the provision of routine health services for children and their families well beyond covid-19” Ms Taton said.

In spite NHL has been at the forefront of the fight against covid-19 pandemic, and currently conducting about 200 test per day.
