Timor-Leste committed to eradicating all forms of malnutrition

DILI, 13 october 2020 (TATOLI)—Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak, said Timor-Leste has pledged to improve the living conditions of the population.

The main focus areas are specifically for improvements in the area of education, health, foods, access for work and basic infrastructure to contribute to the economic development and stability.

“This has provided us with confidence to invest in the strategies to combat poverty and malnutrition of infants and families, which is justified by our adherence to the global movement to improve nutrition,” Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak, said today.

Following this the government wishes to mobilise Human Resources and financial aid to build new public and private partners, to implement operational script from SUN Movement in Timor-Leste to support their plan and political backing of national nutrition.

“We believe that working with the SUN Movement in Timor-Leste, there will be a possibility to provide a good life for children to contribute to the reduction of incidences of malnutrition and infant mortality. This will secure social development which will result in healthy and active children that are consuming good meals,” he said.

The Prime Minister thanked the Assistant of General Secretary for United Nations, Gerda Verburg, who is also a coordinator for the SUN Movement, for the support that has been provided and the entrustment of becoming a member of a global movement.

SUN Movement was established in 2010 with a vision to form new roads for the working collaboration between national members to eradicate malnutrition and to unify all parts of a population to be a strong collective to improve nutrition.
