DILI, 06 january 2020 (TATOLI)— Minister of Health Timor-Leste, Odete Maria Freitas Belo revealed today that her office is set to introduce the plan on boosting the AtraZeneca drugs to the Council of Minister.
She said the plan will be realized in the short time to protect the community from the transmission of COVID-19 in Timor-Leste.
Ms Belo said the drug will be first applying to the front-line staffs such as Health professional, National Police (PNTL), Timor-Leste Defense Forces (FALINTIL) and (F-FDTL), Teachers and the patients diagnose with TB and diabetes.
“ I will introduce the plan to the Council of Minister,” she said after the council meeting today at the Government Palace Dili.
According to plan, the government will place 80% budget to boots the drugs with the support of 20% budget from the partners, World Health Organization (WHO), Australia Government and other partnerships.
The drugs will be stored at the Health Autonomous Service (SAMES) Kampung Alor Dili.
“There are three types of vaccines, but AstraZeneca is appropriate with our situation in Timor-Leste and least refrigerator to keep the drugs since the drugs are set to store in a low temperature, thus we decided to boot AstraZenec because we based on our temperature,” she explained.
Ms Belo added that the Ministry will establish the team to cooperate with the relevant ministries to implement the program for the vaccine in the future.
