Timor-Leste closes borders to all foreign visitors from january 25 to february 1

DILI, 26 january 2021 (TATOLI)- Timor-Leste is temporarily closing the borders to all foreign visitors and the national residents for one week, the Foreign Affairs Ministry announced on january 25, in its bid to prevent an outbreak of a new strain of the coronavirus.

Foreign Affairs Ministry made this decision as per the State of Emergency declared by the President of the Republic, due to a recent increase of imported COVID-19 cases in Timor-Leste.

“It has been decided that borders will temporarily close from January 25 to February 1, 2021 to foreigners from all countries, “Statement from the press release.

The policy states that the only exceptions to the policy are Transit of diplomatic or consular personnel, members of international organizations, bilateral cooperation agencies, and workers in the petroleum sector, Operation of medical evacuation, and International transportation of goods.

Thus the government of Timor-Leste requests the support of all Resident and Non-Resident Foreign Missions and International Organizations accredited to Timor-Leste, in informing their foreign national and organizational members of this new policy.
