The UN agency appreciates the policies set by the Government in dealing with COVID-19 in Timor-Leste

DILI, 03, June 2021(TATOLI)-The United Nations Residence Coordinator Roy Trivedy said The UN Agency appreciates the government’s strict policy in dealing with covid-19 in Timor-Leste, adding that the covid-19 response carried out by the government from 2020 until now has been very appropriate. 

“The government lockdown policies that limit flights operation, limit movement activities, the implementation of Swab testing, and set isolation for the positive covid patients as well as quarantined, aim to prevent the further spread of the virus, the government response to covid-19 has been very appropriate since 2020 until now, thus The UN Agency is appreciative with the government’s policy,” Trivedy said.

Mr. Trivedy said almost all countries in the world were exposed to Covid -19 including Timor-Leste but Timorese Government has the important decision earlier to prevent the spread of covid -19 in this country

“Covid -19 is a global pandemic and despite it has killed millions of people, but the Timor Leste government has very quick intervention for the precaution of COVID -19 in Timor Leste,” said Roy Trivedy in the UN Headquarter, Caicoli on Thursday.

Mr. Trivedy added that To prevent covid-19 in Timor-Leste is not only the responsibility of the Ministry of Health (MoH) but also the Government has involved interministerial and the UN agencies such as World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nation International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in dealing with COVID-19

“Remember that with the formation of a joint work, the Government has established a COVID-19 Center Integrated Management of Crisis (CIGC) and also involved UN agencies such as WHO and UNICEF ​​in carrying out pro-curation proposals in Timor- Leste,” said Trivedy.

For such reason, he said, the presence of WHO and UNICEF in Timor Leste is to cooperate with the government in assisting the COVID-19 Astrazeneca vaccine procurement process and other health equipment to help Timor-Leste in the fight against covid-19.

Previously, on April 5, 2021, The WHO and UNICEF had assisted the government by bringing the AstraZeneca Vaccine with a quantity of 24,000 doses provided by the COVAX facility.

Trivedy informed that WHO and UNICEF have also assisted The Government with different health facilities such as face masks, hand sanitizers, ventilator beds, and other facilities concerning covid-19.
