DILI, 21 july 2021 (TATOLI)-The Minister of Combatant and National Liberation Affairs (MAKLN), Júlio da Costa “Meta Malik”, on behalf of, the meeting with the United State of American (USA) Ambassador, Kevin Blackstone, yesterday, worried that sick veterans were always referred to overseas hospitals because of the hospitals did not meet international standards.
Therefore, he conveyed to the ambassador that this is the condition of Timor-Leste. “So far, sick foreign diplomats have been flown directly to their home countries because there is no international hospital in Timor-Leste to rest on one day or two days,” said Meta Malik at the MAKLN office Caicoli, Dili to Journalist of TATOLI News Agency on wednesday.
Hearing this complaint, according to the minister, the Ambassador of USA in Timor-Leste will talk about this matter to the ministry who is competent not to build an International standard Hospital to Timor-Leste but he wants to do closer cooperation in the health area in Timor-Leste.
“Meta Malik” also recognized that in Timor-Leste there are no hospitals that meet international standards.
Thus, everyone including veterans who are seriously ill should be referred to overseas hospitals.
“Many seriously ill people including veterans have to be referred to overseas hospitals to have their health checked because in Timor-Leste there is no international standard hospital including Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV),” said Meta Malik.
Because of the hospital in Timor-Leste does not meet the international standards, he said that the government through the Ministry of Health is forced to spend a lot of money to pay for airplanes, hospital fees and including accommodation costs for the safety of its people.
Meta Malik explained that however the government will try to address this problem step by step and we must be sure that sooner or later the Hospital in Timor including HNGV will meet international standards.
