More than 900 families in Aileu benefit from WVTL’s program

Dili, July 27, 2021 (Tatoli) – World Vision Timor-Leste (WVTL) has been implementing various programs in Aileu Municipality. The project output recorded more than 900 households are benefiting from program implementation.

The WVTL Aileu program Manager, Emelita Da Cruz explained that WVTL has been working in TL since 1995, focus some programs in Aileu, and since that still under the World Vision Indonesia. It was the transformation to World Vision Timor-Leste in 1999.

“It is taken long existence of programs coverage in Aileu municipality. WVTL has been conducting various programs in Aileu comprising agriculture, health, child protection, violence against households, and climate change. The results of the program give an impact on the 900 families. Those programs were on target of five years implementation,” The General Program Manager, Emelita Da Cruz told Tatoli today in Lesidere, this Monday.

To ensure the effectiveness of program implementation, WVTL has established offices in Lekidoe, Remexiu, and Laulara, and Aileu town.

According to Emelita, WVTL is implementing 4 years agriculture program ‘Ai-han Di’ak Saúde Di’ak’. This program to respond to malnutrition problems offers families training and guiding them to cultivate nutritious foods in their farms.

The program is proposed for the agricultural household to grow several crops to respond to nutritive foods.

According to the training guidance on responding for nutritive foods and farmers should plant grains such as grains, sweet potatoes, eggs, and others (Marungi, Soybean, sweet potato, eggs, and red bean). This farmer training program implementing in five coverage areas composed of Aileu town, Suku liurai, Seloi kraik, Seloi malarek, fahi-ria, and Asíriu.

“The government is purchasing those foods items from the agriculture to respond for the staple foods program on the pandemic situation. The impact of this program gives the revenue for the farmer and all children are benefit for this program consume nutritive foods and contributing for reducing malnutrition in Timor-Leste,” he said.

The WVTL is helping the community mitigate climate change issues, especially in the Aileu municipality. Assisting people to implement reforestation program, replants trees after chopped down.

“We also provided training to help the community to excavate dams and carry out water conservation to guarantee water supply for the dry season,” he said.

The WVTL is conducted three months reflection periods, on output review and ensuring that the programs give impacts on community life.
