COVID-19 update: TL records 142 infections, one death

DILI, 15 august 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste, today, records 142 new cases, one death, 13 recoveries, and active cases were 2.068.

Of the new cases, 92 were detected in Dili, while the rest were identified in the municipalities, including 23 in Covalima, 13 in Baucau, two in Ainaro, one in Aileu.

The spokesperson of SIJK, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo said of today’s cases, 32.3 percent were symptomatic.

He said of today’s cases, 110 were between the ages of 12 and 59, including 28 cases under 20 years and four elderly persons over 60. These new cases are made up of 70 men and 81 women.

Araujo informed that there are currently 44 Covid-19 cases admitted to Vera Cruz Isolation Center, with nine people in intensive care, one of whom required ventilation.

In the last 24 hours, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has performed 303 PCR tests, including one sentinel surveillance test, 107 through contact tracing, 15 via random screening, 123 were carried out following the request for travel authorization out of capital Dili, and 57 in quarantines.

Today, SIJK also registered another death in Dili.

A man in his 70s was diagnosed with Covid-19 on August 13 and transferred to the Vera Cruz Isolation Center (VCIC) on the same day. He had pre-existing conditions and died this morning at VCIC.

The evolution of the COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, the incidence rate of coronavirus is, on average, in the last week, of 11.2 per 100 thousand inhabitants, while in Dili 23.2, Covalima 14.0, Ermera 13.9, RAEOA 10.7, Ainaro 6.5, Aileu 5.8, and Bobonaro 5.6.

The SIJK kept calling on communities to practice the health and safety guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the WHO to continue combating the spread of the virus as the SIJK’s records showed cases are again mounted in Dili, Ermera, and several municipalities.

Health authorities warned that the Delta variant may have spread to other municipalities, where cases are spiked recently.

There has been a total of 12.565 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 10.467 recoveries, active cases were 2.068, and 30 deaths, according to SIJK’s data.

In Timor-Leste, of the 754.864 eligible groups, 45.1 percent had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of which 16.9 percent have also received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
