Timorese Students in Japan build AETJ to  ease the communication between students and Embassy

DILI, 31 august 2021 (TATOLI) – The Embassy of Timor – Leste in Japan commemorates the 22nd day of the referendum (30 August 1999 – 30 August 2021) by establishing the Timorese Student Asosiasation in Japan (AETJ)

Following the Statement released from the Embassy of Timor-Leste in Japan, the formation of the Association was form virtually led by Julio Martires the Moderator of the Timor-Leste Embassy in Japan joined by 18 students.

The Ambassador of Timor Leste to Japan, Ilidio Ximenes da Costa, advised the students to keep the spirit of patriotism and nationalism to pursue their dreams.

“The creation of the AETJ is an approach to ease the communication between students and Embassy in the course of their study,” said Ilidio.

Ilidio said during the meeting the group has a long discussion and presentation regarding the formation of AETJ.

Melisa Alifa da Costa from Sophia University the presenter explained before built this group, she had conducted a survey with 198 Timorese students studied in Japan saying the result of the survey indicated that the majority of them have less access to the information from the Embassy concerning the scholarships, therefore the formation of this Association will help assists them during their study.

“The association can assist students’ academics and help them psychologically while doing their study in Japan. in addition to this organization can share information about Japanese lifestyle and culture, promote Timor-Leste’s culture to the Japanese community and promote education for young Timorese who wish to continue their education in Japan,” Said Melisa Alifa da Costa in a statement.

After gathering ideas from all Timorese students in Japan, an election was made to fill the association structure.

The Association assigned Melisa Alifa da Costa as chairman of AETJ with Olderico da Silva as deputy chairman and Geovania Garret Mouzinho Freitas as secretary.
