ADTL receives 100.000 USD from Australia by the year to reinforce the activities for disabled

DILI, 13 october, 2021 (TATOLI)- The Executive Director of Timor-Leste Association of Disability (ADTL), Cerajio da Silva informed that ADTL receives every year a 100.000 USD from the Government of Australia, Trough Partnerships for Human Development (Ph.D.) in Dili.

Financial support is provided to ADTL to control the programs and activities of ADTL especially for the establishment of a Disability group to support Timorese Disable in the diverse program offered within the groups.

“The financial support from the Australian Government through Ph.D. has resulted in the establishment of 15 disable groups since 2013, with several programs, have been designed for every group to be implemented such as Human Capacity building, economic empowerment, Advocacy, and social inclusion programs,” da Silva told Tatoli after the ADTL organizing seminar regarding the implementation of Government Strategic Plan for People with disabilities in 2021-2030, in ADTL hall, Mascarinhas Dili.

According to da Silva, these programs have been implemented by the groups across Dili including Municipalities, Baucau, Viqueque, Maliana, Ermera, and Oe-Cusse Ambeno (RAEOA), saying it will be expanded to the other remained municipalities: “ADTL has the highest responsibility to provide capacity building program to people with disability around Timor-Leste and ensure they all have the same right to access for the training or educations,”

Therefore da Silva admit that the support from the Australian Government is very important to develop the capacity and skills of people with disabilities through the programs offered by the groups.

At the moment ADTL has recorded 30.118 Timorese living with a disability across the county.
